On October 19, 1993 The Daily Gazette of Schenectady published the following “Letter to the Editor” with its title being Schenectady is nice, but becoming unaffordable.

It was written then by one Floyd Adamson of Schenectady.

I don’t know if Floyd still lives in Schenectady but in the years since 1993, the taxes have only increased. From 2000 to 2009 Schenectady has the most notable designation of being the “Highest Taxed community in the Capital District.” Yes we are the highest as also noted by the Business Review in this article: http://albany.bizjournals.com/albany/stories/2010/04/26/story4.html titled Schenectady tops region in property tax rates — again.

Schenectady’s taxes were increase again in 2010 due to the reassessment of the entire city. But the city is still in need of more money to keep up its [the government's] standard of living. No cut backs are on the table yet.
